muy bueno. i its good

aunque podria ser mejor, no le doy 5 estrellas porque los colores de los tableros estan pésimos. no tiene un verde limón con blanco que es el original y las fichas los colores tienden a confundir. los blancos casi son amarillos y los negros casi son grises. si cambiaran eso para mi seria perfecto. although it could be better, not give it 5 stars because the colors of the boards are terrible. not have a green lemon with white which is the original and tiles the colors tend to confuse. whites are almost yellow and black are almost gray. if they changed that for me would be perfect.

Great to learn and play

The game has a feature that will prompt you if you make an unwise move, so that you can not commit to this move. It also has a suggested move feature to show you a better move. By using these two together, I have learned a great deal about strategy. This goes beyond just playing a game, as you can learn to play a better game. This has been a real breakthrough for me. The only improvement I could suggest is to pick a strategy such as Sicilian, and show how how it works. You can choose the level of play by the computer, so that you are not constantly beaten. Tonight I beat the computer. It is possible to save games and they are available in standard chess notation as well. There is much good to say about this chess game.

Needs to show available moves for a piece

I haven’t used this much at all but one of the first things I noticed is that if you click on a piece, this game doesn’t show you the possible, legal moves. While I don’t need this, my girlfriend who wants to learn chess would find this very useful. This is an obvious refinement that should be in this app by now. Note that Stockfish supports this. Also, this game doesn’t support full screen mode properly nor can the board be resized. Not good.

Really pleasant app, great choice for a beginner too

I’m just a beginner at chess but I had a fun time with the computer on easy mode. After only a few takebacks I brought the game to a stalemate, which is better than many easy modes can offer an over-decisive noob like me. As a designer I wish I could provide my own backgrounds, as I have a couple that I already created digitally that I really like. But this is just pie in the sky stuff at such a price point. Bravo and huge thanks to the developer(s) and I hope they can see the value they are providing people with this great app.

Great start - needs a little polishing

Great app so far. The layout could use some features such as: Full screen mode Also, the GUI doesn’t fit as well as it should in the screen. Some of the top pieces get cut off by the window’s border, as well as the bottom. Just needs to attention-to-detail final touches, and an added full screen mode, and it would be a 5-star.

Do not buy this

Graphics are terrible. Teh UX is abysmal in the sense that one has to find out where to undo moves and see what opening /// uh oh nope there is no opening library. Terrible.

Great app

What are all these complaints about? This is a pretty good game. Granted, it was released at the end of 2012 and haven’t been updated since, I find both the game play, the UI, the graphics just fine. I don’t see any issues with the layout. There are tons of board and piece selections. The window is resizable. While there’s not full screen mode, it’s still decent size on a 27” monitor at 2560x1440 resolution. No reviewers stated their OS, but this app works great on 10.9.5 Mavericks.

Chess Deluxe

I do not recomend this game at all. Any one familiar with chess engines knows that all of the good ones have 50 or more standard openings in them. This one seems to have none. That means from the first move the App is sitting there thinking for a minute when it should make an instant move. Do they think their engine is going to come up with a new opening? It seems to be a little stronger at the late middle to end game then the chess program that came with my MAC. So I wasted 99c. No I wasted my time. Don’t waste yours.

Great for this beginner

I’m new to the game and using this app as a learning tool. I have two problems with it. Sometimes it is hard to distinguish between the queen and the bishop with the black pieces (which are really brown against a brown background) and I wish it was possible to replay a particular move after I’ve made it when I discover it was a poor move. I realize this doesn’t happen in “real” chess but remember I’m using this as a leaning tool Otherwise I love it.

It’s good, but there are bugs...

Sometime the coach will say a move is not good, even when it leads to a win. Inexplicable. Then the help screen has no (x) so you can’t get rid of it unless you close the app. But overall, a good chess app. Also, the app store says this app is in update mode, but no update is available on the Updates screen ?!?

Well worth the price

Great learning tool… just wish it could tell you which openings were being played.

Glitch

After I put the King in check with my Black Queen to A5 and White blocked with Knight to C3 White then proceeded to Castle!

Checkmate? What?

I downloaded this last night and have played a few games since… I was in the middle of a really good game and forced black’s queen to retreat. Out of nowhere, the app says “Checkmate” and won’t let me continue. I wasn’t even near the king, and nor were they around mine.

Chess Deluxe

Purchased it… very good price.. Ran one game and it froze at the last Checkmate that I made on the board.. hasn’t worked since…??

conflicting directions

A move was declared as bad by the game. I had the game suggest a move and it suggested my previoulsy attampted move that had been declared as bad. Interestingly, making this same move after the game suggested it did not result in the game declaring it a bad move. Other than this conflict. the game is nice.
